New DFG cluster project starts at IHP

The German National Science Foundation funds a new interdisciplinary cluster project between microelectronics and catalysis with a total volume of about 720.000 Euro in the years from 2010 to 2012. The project will involve research teams from University of Osnabrück (AG Wollschlaäer & AG Reichling), University of Bremen (AG Bäumer) and IHP Materials Research Department (AG Schroeder). The central idea is to overcome traditional barriers between well established research communities and combine in an interdisciplinary approach theoretical concepts as well as experimental techniques from microelectronics and catalysis. The three years project will focus on structure – property correlation studies of functional oxide films with a potential for applications in microelectronics and catalysis. An example is given by complex oxide thin film systems, currently investigated at IHP for future local integration of catalytically grown graphene films in Si main stream technology. Graphene is a novel electronic nanomaterial with astonishingly high charge carrier mobility at room temperature, opening thus the road towards innovative device concepts for high frequency applications in the terahertz range.
