Siltronic and IHP sign three years research contract on the
development of engineered Silicon wafer systems.
The integration of alternative semiconductor thin films on the mature Silicon wafer platform provides a cost-effective way to manufacture substrate wafers of materials which are either too expensive in bulk crystal form or can simply not be prepared in the requested quantity and quality. These so called engineered Silicon wafer systems are in the focus of a new research contract signed between Siltronic and IHP. Using state-of-the art materials science and electrical characterization infrastructure in combination with MBE and CVD growth facilities, IHP will develop innovative semiconductor integration approaches on Silicon by modern heteroepitaxy techniques.
