The IHP - Innovations for High Performance Microelectronics

invites applications for a position in the research of

Low-Power BiCMOS Signal Processing Circuit Design
AZ 4077/07

The IHP consists of approximately 230 employees, primarily in the area of wireless communications, including SiGe-based technologies, diagnostics, and materials research. We are working in a multi-disciplinary environment, spanning materials, process technology, circuits and systems. The IHP is housed in a state-of-the-art building, with ultra-modern facilities, 55 minutes from Berlin. Our innovations are in worldwide demand.

We are seeking candidates with a Masters or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Communications, or Physics for exciting circuit design tasks in a new project on Ultra-High Bandwidth Low-Power Signal Processing.

The research focus is on analog circuit design for bringing complex ultra-fast digital performance beyond the state of the art in terms of speed and power. This requires a multi-level approach including digital system viewpoint, RF design, analog circuit design, device geometry optimization. The research involves:

• Development of complex high-performance ECL/CML (ECL emitter coupled logic and
current mode logic) circuits at 10-50 GHz clock rate in 130 nm SiGe BiCMOS at minimum
   power consumption

• Simulation and circuit design of analog and digital signal processing at various levels of
   abstraction

• Partitioning of complex processing tasks into CMOS, CML/ECL and analog implementation
parts to achieve maximum power efficiency at ultra high data throughput (about 100-400
   Gbit/s)

• Reliable circuit implementation on the levels of HDL, schematics and layout including
   verification by software and measurement

The successful candidates will be highly motivated with background in the following fields:

• Digital design: Some experience with VHDL and/or Verilog is mandatory.

• Analog circuit design: Profound knowledge of circuit design, simulation and verification is
desired, basic experience with analog IC design (preferably Cadence design suite)
together with a quick learning ability is mandatory.

• RF design: Basics of RF IC design are required, RF tool experience (ADS, HFSS,...) is
   helpful.

• Measurement: Hands-on laboratory experiences in RF IC measurement and/or PCB
design and handling of RF measurement equipment would be an advantage.

The candidates will have the opportunity to work in a joint research project with leading technology companies in a multi-national team with state-of-the-art design environment, excellent laboratory facilities, and direct link to semiconductor technology/modelling department.

These positions offer excellent research facilities, including the chance to pursue a PhD while working fully paid in the research project. You will work in a challenging, multinational environment with excellent career prospects, particularly the opportunity to quickly develop an international reputation at the forefront of high tech.

The positions will be filled as quickly as possible. Salary will paid according to the TV-L scale.

Please send your application by letter/e-mail including CV, copies of (scanned) certificates, and addresses of at least two referees to:
