IHP's Technology Department is focused on the research & development of technologies with high performances at very high frequencies and new functionalities for novel system-on-chip applications. Bringing these technologies into the pilot line for IHP's projects and for the worldwide MPW & Prototyping Service and Low-Volume production is the second focus point.
The research consequently pursues a "More than Moore" strategy. The department`s work does not focus on challenges for scaled CMOS technologies, whereas the research and development of technology modules, which extend functionality of CMOS technology considerably are the main focus points.
The strategic research goals are THz-components, Si Photonics and heterogeneous integration concepts, 2D-materials, passive components with high quality and technology modules for sensor applications (e.g. µ-fluidic channels, MEMS). Thereby we pursue a monolithic integration approach: the integration of modules into BiCMOS basic technologies. This approach allows the combination of electronics with the functionality of the integrated modules on one chip. These technologies can be used in wireless and broadband applications as well as in sensor systems.
Building a bridge between research and industry is the second focus of IHPs Technology Department and considerable efforts are being made to further qualify, extend and provide our worldwide partners and customers IHP's running high performance 0.25 µm and 0.13 µm SiGe-BiCMOS platforms and dedicated technology modules via the MPW-service and for low-volume production.
