The Leibniz Institute for High Performance Microelectronics (IHP) will virtually open its doors on April 22nd, 2021 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the 19th Brandenburg Future Day 2021. Schoolchildren from grade 7 can take part in an interactive, varied program via the Zoom conference. During the three-hour event, the girls and boys will get to know the institute and its laboratories, learn interesting facts about the basics of microchip production and how to conduct research with creativity and ingenuity. IHP employees will inform the participants about their daily work, their careers and share their personal experiences.
To ensure that experiments and quizzes with the pupils are not neglected during the virtual Future Day, the participants will receive an experiment set and materials sent home in advance of the event.
In order to create an interesting and entertaining program for the girls and boys, the IHP was supported by Förderforum Frankfurt e.V. in planning the event. The forum already has experience in designing virtual holiday care programmes for children and young people and helps the IHP to make research tangible for the pupils.
For the past 19 years, the Future Day in the federal state of Brandenburg has offered girls and boys from the 7th class a great opportunity to gain insights into the world of work for a day and learn about professions that used to be considered "typically female" or "typically male". "The IHP has been using this day for many years to get pupils excited about technical and scientific topics at a young age and to present opportunities for exciting tasks in internships, training and as an employer," says Elise Funke, IHP HR manager and co-organizer of Future Day 2021.
The number of participants in the Future Day at IHP is limited. The 10 places for boys are already fully booked. A prerequisite for participation is a stable Internet connection and a laptop or tablet. If the latter is missing, the IHP will be happy to help arrange equipment for hire.
