Main focus

The main focus of the broadband mixed-signal group is the development of state-of-the-art integrated circuits for ultra-high bandwidth systems using IHP SiGe BiCMOS technologies. Current research activities concentrate on building blocks for photonic systems such as transimpedance amplifiers, VCSEL drivers, Mach-Zehnder Modulator drivers, clock and data recovery circuits and coherent receivers. The research activities in this field go also towards tighter integration of optical devices with the electronics on the same substrate. In the field of data conversion circuits we are focusing mainly on the development of ultra-fast digital-to-analog converters with special requirements such as high output-voltage swing and wide output bandwidth. We are also involved in the design of analog processing parts and IPs for complex mixed-signal ASICs for various applications.

  • Different TIA designs and MZ drivers for various data rates up to 40Gbaud
  • MZ Driver for multilevel (DP-QPSK) signaling at 20Gbps
  • Directly Modulated VCSEL Drivers up to 40Gbps
  • DA Converters in SiGe BiCMOS with various data rates (up to 28GS/s, 6 bits)
