Tele-Diagnostik

mm-wave/THz sensors and tools for bioanalysis and wireless biosensor networks

The Objective

The project is embedded in the research platform “T(h)era-Diagnostik”. The goal of the project is to combine in-vitro investigations and in-vitro-Diagnostica for bioanalysis with wireless networks for data transmission, and to develop novel biosensors using advanced IHP SiGe BiCMOS technology. The combination of SiGe BiCMOS technology, microfluidics, and communication technologies enables new lab-on-chip applications in bioanalysis. The development of sensors working in the mm-wave/sub-THz range is used for miniaturization of the lab-on-chip system.

IHP’s Contribution

IHP is developing mm-wave/sub-THz biosensors for lab-on-chip applications using the advanced IHP 0.13µm SiGe BiCMOS-technology, and novel microwave biosensors with integrated microfluidic channel. IHP is designing sub-THz transmitters and receivers for emerging biosensor systems. Lab-on-chip demonstrators are under development with growing integration level and miniaturization for in vitro-Diagnostica. Short-range wireless sensor networks are investigated and developed for these demonstrators.
