The Fraunhofer Institute for Telecommunications, Heinrich-Hertz-Institut , is a major partner for research and development in information technology. The institute was founded in the year 1928 in Berlin. Today it has approximately 220 employees. The research is focused on photonic networks and components, electronic imaging technology for multimedia, and on broadband mobile communication.

In the mobile communication department we develop solutions within the entire range, from information theory, and channel measurements, via design of detection algorithms, and system simulation right through to the implementation of algorithms and the development of analogue and digital circuits. Our current topics are:

  • multiple antenna systems
  • 3GPP LTE
  • 60 GHz technology
  • car-to-car communication
  • ad-hoc networks
  • cross layer design
  • heterogeneous access management
  • cognitive radio and multi standard transceiver
