Sub-Project: Concept and demonstrator for in-vehicle-communication

This sub-project investigates the specific application of 60 GHz radio communication in cars. The approach of using high data rate wireless communication opens up great potentials. It allows the elimination of cabling solutions and therefore the reduction of weight, higher energy efficiency and less pollution. In addition, there are new possibilities for the design of electronic control units (ECUs). High data rates enable the separation of displays and processing units leading to more flexible upgrade possibilities.

Definition of vehicle-specific requirements for millimetre-wave communication
Investigation of architecture of end devices for series production in higher volumes
Measurement/simulation of 60 GHz radio channels in the vehicle and determination of optimal antenna placements
System design of higher layers and communication software for vehicle-business-communication and infotainment
Set-up of a vehicle prototype with on-board millimetre-wave communication
Validation of characteristics of the complete system
