Sub-Contract: Contributions of TU Ilmenau to EASY-A
At Ilmenau University of Technology , the Institute for Information Technology , in co-operation with the Institute for Micro- and Nanotechnologies , contributes to the project EASY-A as a subcontractor of IHP GmbH , Frankfurt (Oder), and IMST GmbH , Kamp-Lintfort, and MEDAV GmbH , Uttenreuth, to the development of the VHR-E demonstrator. The contributions, summarised under the acronym AIRFUN
Antenna Concepts :
- Design and prototyping of patch antennas on LTCC substrates
- RX and TX antennas with gain characteristics tailored to the envisaged VHR-E-applications
- Designs with balanced and unbalanced feeding lines
- Antennas for UHR-C applications can be derived, if identical frequency, bandwidth, and gain specifications as for the VHR-E designs apply
- Implementation of a multichannel sounder system with 7 GHz of real-time bandwidth ( MEDAV GmbH )
- Conduction and evaluation of wave propagation measurement campaigns for VHR-E scenarii
Packaging and Antenna Implementation :
- Evaluation of different LTCC and coating materials at 60 GHz
- Integration of MMICs, feeding and matching structures, and antennas on a common LTCC substrate
- Implementation and evaluation of MMIC assembling technologies (flip-chip, chip-and-wire, gluing, chip coating etc.)
Baseband architecture und implementation :
- Characterisation and modeling of nonlinear distortion in the power amplifiers of the VHR-E demonstrator system
- Optimisation of baseband signal processing to minimise the effect if nonlinear distortion (single carrier modulation, cyclic prefix, frequency domain processing, iterative (Turbo-) detection)
- FPGA-implementation in extension of OFDM-baseband platform of IHP
System Integration / Demonstrators :
- Antenna implementation for the VHR-E demonstrator (number of modules in budget plan corresponds to AIRBUS demonstrator)
- Simulation and measurement of antenna modules (also modules with IF-interface)
