The position:
We are looking for a motivated researcher to join the System Architectures Department to mainly work on modelling and optimizing brain-inspired architectures for edge AI applications. The development of energy efficient and highly reliable brain-inspired computing architectures requires a holistic strategy assuming all abstraction levels from device, through circuits to architectures. In addition, an application-oriented perspective should be adopted in order to properly model and optimize the use of such architectures assuming different trade-offs between constraints such as power consumption, performance, reliability, etc. When assuming the idea of exploring solutions based on hybrid architectures based on technology heterogeneity, this complexity increases significantly. It is anticipated that the
candidate will mainly support projects’ activities. Your detailed tasks will include:- Model and optimization of brain-inspired architectures for edge AI applications assuming technology heterogeneity
- Design and optimization of hardware-aware spiking neural network architectures
- Development of strategies for properly benchmarking different conventional and non-conventional architectures for edge AI applications
- Support the activities in the context of the Neuromorphic Hardware Group (PhD students guidance, project proposals’ preparation, scientific papers’ preparation, etc.)
Your qualifications:
You hold a PhD's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field. You have good knowledge and experience in modelling and optimizing brain-inspired computing architecture for edge AI applications assuming technology characteristics as well as trade-offs between requirements and constraints. The position:
We are looking for a technically skilled engineer to join the System Architectures Department as our in-house interface to the central IT infrastructure. You will be responsible for setting up, maintaining, and operating the full technical stack our research and development work depends on — from bare-metal servers and EDA tool environments to design flows and compute cluster management. The goal is to ensure our teams get what they need, when they need it.
Beyond operations, you will help us turn our hardware development infrastructure into a living data source. By extracting, structuring, and processing data from our design flows and tools, you will enable real-time insight into our development processes — an area with genuine research potential and the possibility of contributing to publications. As our in-house DevOps engineer, you will build and operate the technical foundation our hardware development teams rely on:- Setup and administration of servers, operating systems, and virtualization environments

The position:
We are looking for a motivated PhD candidate to join the System Architectures Department. The research focus is on compiler and toolchain development for a heterogeneous embedded edge platform combining RISC-V-based processors, FPGAs, and custom accelerators. The platform integrates conventional and non-conventional AI accelerators — including emerging technologies beyond CMOS — and a key challenge is mapping and scheduling application workloads across these components at the compiler and runtime level. While RISC-V is our current baseline, the flow should not be limited to a single ISA or platform.
This position offers a deep insight into the programming of state-of-the-art hardware systems. It is anticipated the candidate will work towards a PhD. Your detailed tasks will include:- Compiler backend development and toolchain integration for a custom embedded target platform
- Mapping and scheduling of application workloads onto heterogeneous processor-accelerator architectures
- Integration of accelerators and application-level inference pipelines into the software stack at the operator and runtime level
- Hardware-independent development and testing using ISA simulators (e.g. QEMU, Spike)
- Co-design support: accelerator selection, interface specification, and dimensioning in collaboration with hardware teams
