Integrated Si Terahertz Heterodyne Spectrometer for Biomedical- and Space- Applications ‒ SiTeSpec
Heterodyne spectroscopy in the THz region is a powerful and important technique for remote sensing. The goal of this project is to develop an integrated THz heterodyne spectrometer in SiGe BiCMOS technology for the frequency band centered at 550 GHz and a heterodyne receiver operating around 1. 1 THz. Both frequency bands are highly relevant for atmospheric research of the Earth and other planets as well as for breath gas analysis. To demonstrate the feasibility of the System for remote sensing, we will perform a demonstration experiment on a stratospheric weather balloon. With the active spectroscopy System based on TX and RX, we will perform analysis of exhaled human breath at 550 GHz.
