The field of responsibility for a special employee for media and information includes the procurement, provision and technical handling of various media in archives, libraries, information and documentation sites as well as picture agencies. In the library section your duties comprise user and information service, interlibrary loan as well as public relations.
The length of training is 3 years, but can be shortened to 2½ years with excellent performance. You will work in a flexible time schedule and will be able to balance work and leisure. Vocational school education will take place utilizing sandwich courses at the Louise-Schroeder-Schule Oberstufenzentrum Bürowirtschaft und Verwaltung (upper school center for business administration) in Berlin. Within the frame of your education you will have the possibility to complete an internship to become acquainted with other libraries and information sites (optionally in a foreign country).
The successful candidate will have the general qualification for university entrance or of a specialized secondary school with the eligibility to visit the senior classes of a secondary school and will also have good marks in the subjects German, English and mathematics. Further prerequisites include a good oral and written ability to express oneself as well as a keen interest in library work. Reliability and flexibility as well as a precise working style are absolutely essential. Interest in photography and digital image processing are desirable.
