AMMOD
The AMMOD project aims to develop an Automated Biodiversity Monitoring Station. Biodiversity monitoring on a larger spatial scale is currently possible only on the basis of a selection of indicator species and with the support of scientists who are experts in the taxonomy and biology of the selected species groups. DNA barcoding, one of the most developed alternatives to traditional species identification, is useful for a variety of small and difficult-to-determine species, although the technique is less important for monitoring birds, bats, rodents, etc. However, other innovative tools are available for this purpose. Many available technologies have been developed for other (e.g. military) purposes and need to be adapted for automated biodiversity monitoring. We are pursuing the use of these tools to build a "biodiversity weather station".
