"Discovering the life and decay of wood holds a special fascination for me. Finding an almost weathered telephone directory inspired me to create this exhibition. The fascinating thing about it is that it takes a second or third glance to realise that wooden fragments are hidden in the images.
The presentation thrives on transformation. New motifs are added, replacing others. An essential feature of the photographs is that the images are not edited; the photo is finished in my mind before I press the shutter button."
Frankfurt photographer Frank Pielenz will open his new exhibition on the 29th of January 2026 at 14:00. at IHP. For many years, he has been out and about on walks and hikes, capturing everyday life, landscapes and interpersonal relationships with his camera. Both professionally and privately, he has gotten to know different countries and cultures in Europe, Asia and Africa. However, most of his photographs are taken right on his doorstep. These can be of the austere beauty of the Oder floodplain landscape, but also of the small and large wildlife above and below the water.
