What are the scientists at IHP working on, how is research conducted there, and what opportunities are available for starting a career at the institute? Answers to these questions and many other exciting experiences await you at this year's Open Day at IHP – Leibniz Institute for High Performance Microelectronics on 13 September 2025 from 14:00 to 18:00.

The management will open the day at 14:00 in the main entrance area. This will be followed by guided tours of various laboratories at the research institute: guests can visit the molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) laboratory, the photonics laboratory and the measurement laboratories of the chip design department. A particular highlight are the clean room tours, which are being offered in three formats for the first time this year – specifically for children, beginners and experts. Visitors from the neighbouring town of Słubice can look forward to tours in Polish.

Science slams put research topics on stage: Two scientists from IHP present their work in entertaining and understandable short lectures.
In the “Meet the IHP” format, employees answer questions about training, everyday work and research in a relaxed atmosphere. Among those taking part are a scientist who heads a group in the System Architectures department, an employee from the marketing team, a trainee in office management and a trainer. This provides an opportunity to get to know the institute from a personal perspective.

The building houses, among other things, IHP's research departments with their current topics and the joint labs of our university cooperation partners. In addition, the institute provides information about training opportunities: at several stands, IHP presents itself as an employer – including an application check, where applicants can have their documents reviewed and, if necessary, improved – and introduces the vocational training opportunities in the fields of office administration, mechatronics, electronics and IT. The programme is complemented by partners including FörderForum Frankfurt (Oder) e.V., Stadtmarketing and Deutsch-Polnische Tourist-Information, ICOB, the Jugend-Berufe-Agentur (JBA) and the company Elmos.
For young visitors aged nine and above, the Children's University will open twice, at 14:30 and 16:30, with an event on the topic of sound. In a child-friendly manner, it will explain how sound waves are created, where they are not transmitted, and how we perceive them.

Fair Catering will be providing food and drinks at a barbecue stand, and Buggy’s rollende Softeiskiste will be serving soft ice cream from its mobile ice cream cart.

“Science is more than just theory – it is exciting, tangible and accessible to everyone – ultimately, we are researching and developing the technologies of tomorrow here. We look forward to providing insights into our work at the open day and engaging in conversation with our guests,” says Prof. Dr. Gerhard Kahmen, Scientific Director of IHP.

IHP cordially invites all citizens of the twin cities of Frankfurt (Oder) and Słubice, as well as interested parties from the region, to experience an afternoon full of discoveries, discussions and science.
