Join us on 11 February for International Women and Girls in Science Day, a day dedicated to empowering female students and promoting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) subjects. This year's programme includes two unique offerings that promise to educate, inspire and connect attendees with outstanding women in science.

Morning programme: Exploring science for girls

Time: 8:30 - 11:30
Audience: Schoolgirls from Frankfurt

We invite 20 schoolgirls to join us for an exciting morning of exploration and hands-on science. Several female scientists will present a varied programme to give an insight into their work. The programme includes: introductory talk, visits to the MBE and Photonics labs, clean room tours, talks and a science slam. This event will give our young guests the opportunity to explore exciting opportunities in STEM fields and connect with role models in science.

Afternoon programme: Panel discussion

Time: 15:30 - 17:30
Audience: General public, teachers and young researchers

The afternoon will feature a thought-provoking panel discussion with prominent speakers:

  • Jess Wade (Physicist at Imperial College London)
  • Katja Kraft (Equal Opportunities Officer, Viadrina)
  • Alexandra Schweiger (Leibniz Mentoring | Equal Opportunities and Diversity)
  • Claudia Finger (Social Science Research Center Berlin)
  • Rawina Trautmann (Viadrina)
  • Costanza Manganelli (Postdoc and Equal Opportunities Officer, IHP)

The discussion will cover key topics such as career paths in science (personal journeys, key moments and challenges); barriers, biases and strategies to overcome challenges and the role of institutions in promoting equality; mentoring, role models and the importance of supportive networks and advice for future mentors; diversity, inclusion and steps that insti-tutions can take to promote gender equality; successful initiatives in this area; ideas on how women in science can continue to break down barriers in the coming decades.

Evening programme: Film screening ‘PICTURE A SCIENTIST’

Time: 18:00
Audience: General public, teachers and young researchers

The documentary film tells the impressive stories of female scientists who courageously stand up for equal rights. Be inspired by their journey and visions for a just science.

The event is free of charge, but registration is required. Don't miss this opportunity to cel-ebrate the achievements of women in science and contribute to the important dialogue on the future of diversity in STEM. The discussion will be held in English with simultaneous translation. Registration is possible until February 7th.

The event is made possible by IHP and IHP Solutions.
