INTENS - Integration of electrical sensors in wood and fiber composites

Funding

Funding

The project INTENS is supported by funding from the European Union (StaF guideline).

Objective

In the project innovative materials (bio-based or recyclable plastics and wood) and their manufacturing technologies will be investigated for an easy and quick insertion and control of sensors in these materials. Then an appropriate activation of the sensors is to be developed and tested. These function-integrated components could then, for example, be used in building roofs to determine the roof load, in wind generators for the detection of impact damage or for the determination of load distribution in ships. This approach achieves an important contribution towards a sustainable energy- and cost-efficient use of resources as well as a function integration of sensors into lightweight construction components.

IHP's Contribution

In the project INTENS, IHP will make standardized Si-based test structures available which will be inserted into the above mentioned materials with the help of the developed technologies. Afterwards, a follow-up characterization will be performed together with the partners in order to evaluate the functionality for future sensor and electronics integration.
