Communication systems and circuits with the highest data rates

Wireless communication systems for highest data rates can, for example, be realized at very high carrier frequencies using high bandwidth or as MIMO systems with extremely high spectral efficiency. Both approaches have been investigated at IHP. Typically, we experimentally verified the functionality using complex hardware demonstrators.

Based on radio frontends supporting extremely high data rates, wireless data transmission with 100 GBit/s and more has been demonstrated in our lab. Typical applications for such circuits are in the field of mobile communication (5G and beyond), satellite communication and short range communications. Components and complete transceivers are available for carrier frequencies of 26.5 - 29.5 GHz, 50 - 75 GHz, 110 - 170 GHz, and 225 - 255 GHz.
