Emerging materials for future devices

Plasmonic structures focus electromagnetic waves into tiny structures, enabling a new generation of fast devices and highly sensitive molecular detectors. The high sensitivity of plasmonic structures is based on the extremely high local amplification of the electromagnetic field. Future sensing platforms will require the integration of these plasmonic sensors into semiconductor fabrication processes to find real-world applications. THz plasmonics in the frequency range of electronic circuits is of particular interest.
