Quantum bit devices

Due to their specific operating principle, quantum computers have the potential to solve tasks for which classical computers operate too inefficiently. Quantum computers function differently in principle than conventional digital computers. Unlike the bits of digital computers, their smallest computational units, the "quantum bits" (qubits), are capable of interconnecting according to special laws of quantum mechanics. Building on existing competencies and infrastructure, silicon-based quantum bit devices are being developed, creating a good starting point for future research activities in the field of quantum technologies.
