The IHP – Leibniz Institute for High Performance Microelectronics and Sabancı University in Istanbul are continuing to expand the scope of their Joint Lab, the foundation of their successful academic and research collaboration since 2007. In April 2024, the laboratory's existing focus on microelectronic technologies was broadened to encompass the design and development of integrated high-frequency (RF and mm-wave IC) circuits. This will further support scientific excellence in areas such as high-frequency integrated circuits, radar sensors, micro- and nanosystems, and RF packaging.

As part of this collaboration, Sabancı University students are invited to undertake summer internships at IHP. Another round of internships began in June 2025, during which students worked on projects related to high-frequency, digital and mixed signal integrated-circuit design, as well as device modeling. These internships also provide an opportunity to further develop the “Virtual Laboratory” of the Joint Lab, which enables and structures remote collaboration and the completion of bachelor's and master's theses under joint supervision.

A delegation from Sabancı University visited the IHP headquarters in Frankfurt (Oder) on 29 August 2025. The President of Sabancı University, Prof Yusuf Leblebici, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Prof Erkay Savaş, the Vice President for Education, Prof Cem Güneri, and the Co-coordinator of the Joint Lab, Prof Yaşar Gürbüz, met with the IHP research team, including Prof. Corrado Carta, the Joint Lab Co-coordinator at IHP and Head of the Circuit Design Department, and Prof. Gerhard Kahmen, Scientific Director of IHP.

“Sabancı University is one of Turkey's leading private universities, renowned for its world-class engineering programs and cutting-edge research in electronics, mechatronics, and computer science. The 16-year collaboration between IHP and Sabancı University has resulted in 114 student internships, 53 joint scientific publications, 14 Sabancı graduates employed at IHP, and joint research projects worth approximately €300,000. We are delighted to be able to continue this mutually beneficial cooperation.”, says Prof. Corrado Carta.

"IHP Microelectronics has been a valuable partner in Sabancı University's Electronics Engineering program, particularly in the microelectronics research area, providing internship and graduation project opportunities, and on-site and remote support for undergraduate and graduate courses. At IHP, our students have access to cutting-edge integrated circuit manufacturing, testing, and characterization infrastructure, built on integrated circuits and systems based on world-leading SiGe-BiCMOS technology, and the opportunity to engage in hands-on training and hands-on work/supervised with world-leading researchers. Many of our students who have benefited from this opportunity have acquired a high level of academic expertise and motivation, completing their academic studies at some of the world's most prestigious universities and working in managerial and leadership positions at leading electronics companies in the world. In the research area, IHP has provided our Microelectronics Research Group with access to the world's fastest integrated circuit technology, providing the opportunity for impactful research in this field for years.", add the representatives of the Sabancı University.

The top-management of both IHP and Sabancı University have expressed their strong desire and support for the continued diversification of this promising collaboration for the future.
