How do we grow healthy and affordable vegetables in the 21st century? The 28 pupils who participated in the Brandenburg Future Day at the IHP - Leibniz Institute for High Performance Microelectronics on Thursday learned from scientist Dr Marcin Brzozowski that artificial intelligence can be a key to this. They discovered the versatility of the institute during lectures and lab tours as well as at the careers speed dating event.
Grade 7 to 11 pupils from Neuzelle and Beeskow, Potsdam and Fürstenwalde as well as Seelow and Frankfurt came to the IHP. After the introduction of the institute, they asked seven employees about their professions at the careers speed dating event. Many a prejudice was dispelled in the process. The pupils were given a comprehensive insight into the vocational world, which was fur-ther deepened by guided tours of the MBE and FIB laboratories and a tour around the IHP clean room.
"Future Day has been an integral part of our work with young talent at IHP for many years. It is important to us to introduce children and young people to scientific professions at an early age, to create realistic expectations and to arouse curiosity," says Anna Herfurth, Head of Human Resources at IHP. "We invest a lot of time in the preparation and realisation of the day. More than 15 people were on hand today to talk about their day-to-day work. This al-lowed the entire breadth and diversity of IHP's possibilities to be demonstrated." The pupils concurred with this opinion. The mood was assessed playfully and at the end of the day it was more than positive. "Mega", "Surprising", "Unexpectedly good", "Exciting and educational" and "Super informative" were the final verdicts of the young people.
